Mark - Max is a good application - I'm using it right now to rip and FLAC discs.
I moved from PC to Mac a few months ago (at home and work) after seeing Parallels Desktop running Win XP on an iBook. There are a few PC only apps I need run and this was the ideal solution. The learning curve is not that steep, and after a while going back to a PC feels like stepping back in time (though I've not used Vista . . .)
