FWIW, you may wish to consider lossless compression (e.g., FLAC, ALAC). These will not compromise music quality whatsoever, and they will support metadata tagging, save 40-50% in terms of disk space, and, in the case of FLAC, use correspondingly less network bandwidth (since the SB3 decodes it natively).
