Both will be recorded in the database and both ALBUMARTISTs and ARTISTs should appear in your browse artists list. > What about TRACKARTIST - is that a tag, too? I don't think so. It's any internal 'role' used by SqueezeCenter and its use and the circumstances of how it comes about are a bit obscure. I think it only comes up on non-compilations with an ALBUMARTIST and single artists on tracks. > In answer to an earlier question, my collection is, sadly, a mix of FLAC > and (done earlier) MP3, with a little OGG thrown in. Just remember that id3v2 doesn't permit more than one field with the same name, so you must use a separator character to designate multiple ARTISTs. For Flac, Ape and Ogg, the tagging system permits more than one field with the same name and that's the recommended method of tagging, although you can still use the separator approach with SqueezeCenter. > Anyway, I'm thinking if taking the > ALBUMARTIST X and Y > ARTIST X;Y > approach - but only on albums that I consistently miss because the > artist I think of the album as being "by" is actually listed second (or > third), and so I miss it when browsing. One downside is that if you normally use ARTISTSORT for sorting artists by last name, there's no ALBUMARTISTSORT tag. So if you use ARTIST=Charlie Hayden ARTISTSORT=Hayden, Charlie and then you tag this album with ALBUMARTIST=Charlie Hayden and Pat Metheny What you'll get is albums by only Charlie Hayden will sort under 'H' and albums by 'Charlie Hayden and Pat Metheny' will be under 'C'. If you don't use ALBUMARTIST, then it will be sorted with one or the other (probably the first in the alphabet - Charlie Hayden). -- JJZolx Jim ------------------------------------------------------------------------ JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42823 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
