Back when I first got my mac mini I started experimenting with max as it seemed to be the sole ripper for the mac that would convert to flac. Tried on a couple of cds and it did seem to take about half an hour a disc. Having a dig around the internet someone suggested using a cheap external drive would speed the process up.
