Ok, I seriously looked at the CSG. It is a nice attempt but only makes
partly sense to me. Party because of reasons I stated in my inital
post: for me the ARTIST is(are) the performer(s) not the composer, most
adamantly for solo compositions (piano/cello/violoncello).
Transcriptions (covers) are not really a problem, because the piano
player still is the artist of, lets say "Pictures at an Exhibition"
composed by "Mussorgsky/Ravel" and it would run under the GENRE of
"Piano Transcriptions". 

I see a problem in the language related guidelines (CSG). Why select as
artist the composer and switch to "release language" when talking about
keys, movements etc? Does the composer change names as well depending
on the release language (Shostakovich, Schostakowitsch, Sjostakovitsj)?
That would not help browsing for a specific piece.
