It is true that there are some who feel that anything that's been digitised can never sound as good as vinyl. Given the world they have to live with, they're the unlucky ones.
For what it's worth, my personal experience has been that digitising LPs with the M-Audio 2496 soundcard (using purely 16/44.1 - I don't even bother with 24 bit) results in recordings that are sonically indistinguishable from the original vinyl. The great thing about digitising your LPs is that: 1. You can play the recordings without fear of damaging the vinyl or paying for stylus wear - which on a top-end cartridge can be as much as $1 per LP. 2. If you want to put in the effort, you can do a bit of restoration to remove the clicks and pops. There is a downside, of course: the actual effort of digitising LPs.
