I've been using a Mac and both Max and iTunes for sometime. I used to rip some of my files in aif format (workarounds for DRM issues), and also noticed that I couldn't play the aifs when I upgraded to 7.2. In SC 7.2 you need to change the settings in the "Audio" menu to recognize the aifs. If all else fails, convert the aifs to AAC, you won't notice the difference much when playing through external speakers. Max is only a program to rip your CDs, Max's "Play" is the program you could use instead of iTunes; however, since I don't use it, I don't know if it will play aifs.
