I discovered that when I store Replaygain tags via Foobar, my id3v2.3 tags are rewritten as id3v2.4 tags. I can't see a setting in Foobar to change this to id3v2.3. I don't know if there's any compatibility issues with 2.4 tags, but I thought I read that some apps only read v1 or v2.3 tags from mp3 files.
So, after adding replaygain tags, I then opened the files in Mp3tag and saved back as id3v2.3 tags.
