Considering how long it takes to rip CDs - and how boring a process it
is - surely a basic external USB drive to back up everything is a good
investment? Also some downloads - iTunes for example - cannot be
re-downloaded.

Backup, backup, backup! (please) I know from my experience as a father
and lecturer that people just do not do it. No wonder Apple developed
Time Machine and made it almost a default part of the OS.
