Dont forget the data integrity issues gentlemen I would not use anything
but lossles in the guise of FLAC even if I was 100% sure that i could
not hear any difference.

1.From a lossless source you can transcode to everything else without
issues.
lossy to lossy codec can get you strange artefact's.

2.A lossless file is a true backup of your CD it is a copy of the
original.

3. Thinking ahead flac and mp3 and mp4 and ogg is the thing now but in
20 years it might be another lossless format ? Or another lossy format
or who knows.
Eventually we will face some kind of data migration problem in the
future.
Converting lossles files dont hurt the content.

4. Using a free lossles format as FLAC instead of closed source like
WMA or ALAC gives some insurance that is going to be decoders in the
future.

5. If the audio data is going to be further processed by room
correction algorithms or software in speaker crossovers and HT
equipment, it's better to use a non compressed source.
This might seem very esoteric, and it was studio speakers and ultra
expensive hifi like meridian that used it, but logitech showed in such
tech in th boom :)
Others will follow. Btw even midfi home theater receivers often have
some useful non gimmicky processing these days
