Maybe thats again the difference between consumer and audiophile. While the first doesn't care and most of the time is more impressed by some lousy Equalizer and Hall-effect then the losses of mp3 the other gets grey hair (with both) :)
A fotographer will think about your picture taking maybe the same as you about my music attitude now. And in the end it also depends on the material. Todays mainstream music is so overly compressed that I still think the codec doesn't do any sensible harm. Its totally different with classics and jazz of course. Anyway: as I now consider you both as 'audiophile' (whatever this means) I'd be even more interested if you did some A/B-testing. Not to convince you but just get an impression what a difference good ears and equipment can really make today if one cares.
