Thanks, all. Very informative. Especially nice to have an explanation of why one would ever want to use a cue sheet. Just from playing around with some files, I think some rippers add gap time BOTH to the end of the preceding track and to the beginning of the track being ripped. Odd that the procedure is to add gap time to the file but that there are no options for controlling this behavior in my ripper (dbpoweramp). On the other hand, nobody else seems to be very bothered by this, so I guess the programmers used good judgment.
