1) edit puddletag's genre listing to ensure it meets your needs load
your library, sort by artist/ album, mark all tracks relating to the
artist/ genre you're wanting to add and use the Tag Panel to add the
Genre from the Genre listing (or just type one in). When done, hit the
Save icon in the toolbar to write your changes. Method 2) follows the
same logic but you can make use of the Extended Tags dialogue instead.

3) The 3rd (and likely most appealing) method is to make use of
masstagging. Firstly ensure that the tag source you're wanting to make
use of is configured to behave the way you want i.e. only add Genre
metadata. This is accessed through Windows/ Mass Tagging.
Configuration settings are shown in the attached screenshot. Load and
select all tracks from albums you're wanting to add Genre information
to and click on the Start button in the Masstagging window.

When it's done puddletag will format all tracks it proposes to change
in bold. If the genre column is in view you'll be able to see and/or
edit the proposed changes. Similarly, you can highlight files you're
interested in editing, right click and enter Extended Tags view. If
you're not wanting to write changes to all files puddletag has
highlighted, select the tracks you want to ignore and hit Ctrl-Shift-F
<-- this will deselect them and abandon their proposed changes.
