It's probably also going to have to be done in steps:
1. Stop selling new IP3K gear
2. Announce EOL
3. Optimize menus for SqueezeOS devices and make IP3K harder to use

My guess is that step 3 is at least a year after step 1.

The problem for Logitech is probably MySqueezebox.com.
They can easily stop supporting IP3K in Squeezebox Server because IP3K
users can just stay on older Squeezebox Server release, but doing the
same on MySqueezebox.com is going to be harder without upsetting
existing customers.

Ok, sounds like kind of the same principles as Custom Browse plugin but
less technical and more user friendly.

Although, I think the views has to be able to list other things than
albums, because scrolling through your 500 classical albums list on a
Squeezebox Classic to reach the 50 Vivaldi albums and scroll down to
the 43'rd which our are interested in is going to be a bit frustrating.
It's not a problem in web interface where scrolling using a mouse is
easy, but scrolling is a problem on a Squeezebox Classic so you want to
avoid long scrolling lists if possible.

I believe the hierarchical menus we have today works pretty good on a
Squeezebox Classic, so if we can do the same with a user defined view
that sounds like a good idea.

Also the Squeezebox Boom has limited screen width, so it's pretty small
to be able to even include both album name and artist name on the single
line display which would be needed when scrolling through an album list
with all classical albums. It gets a lot easier in a hierarchical menu
where you select "Genres/Classical/Vivaldi/Some album"
