It would be, which is another reason it is best to encode to a lossless
format when ripping. That way you can just transcode from the
FLAC/AppleLossless/AIFF or even WAV files instead of dragging out the
CDs again.

I believe that gapless encoding was not introduced in LAME until
version 3.9x. You should probably count yourself lucky that you're
getting gapless playback on any device, and exactly how you're getting
gapless playback on iTunes, and iPod is a mystery to me. And how you're
getting gapless on your SB3 is even more curious!

Unfortunately, if you want to be guaranteed gapless playback,
re-ripping is your only option at this point. Excellent ripping
programs like dBpoweramp can take away a lot of the pain, but if your
collection has a lot of classical you'll still probably be stuck with a
lot of manual editing of tags.
