At this point, even QT4 is 8 years old. If work was going to be invest to
pull Rivendell off QT3, it would probably make sense to go straight to QT5.

Maintaining QT3 support once it gets pulled from the standard repos for
Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, etc is doable, but it does start to bring into
question security issues that are no longer being patched, etc. There is
also the fact that X is on it's way out. Maintaining support for QT3 is one
thing, but maintaining support for the entire X stack once the world has
moved on to Wayland and/or Mir over the course of the next few years will
likely become untenable.
