I've had pretty good results with Cygwin/X on Windows connecting to a
UNIX machine on my local LAN. The performance of cygwin has improved a
lot lately; it's not as plauged as it used to be.

For a slower network link, FreeNX is awesome, but quite a challenge to
set up on some servers. I had problems compiling it on debian as well
as finding working packages for debian. However, I was able to install
it fairly easily on RedHat Enterprise, so I would hope Fedora Core
might be as easy. There's many resources online for help with FreeNX,
definitely worth checking it out if you've got the time.

Eggs-actly.

I've also tried tightvnc. It was a pretty brainless setup.
