For things like this I create a new detail item for the username and a new
plan detail that has all the info I want to pass to the authentication
server. Then I either create a sql DB for that server to authenticate
against or do ftp event scripts. I did this for our wireless 802.11b
service with MAC addresses and SSID's. I create these custom detail items
all the time to track info on customers, like who installed their wireless
service, what CPE type did they get, etc. It makes writing even scripts a
lot easier.

Before we setup our own server I wanted to make sure there would be
enough interest to justify the licensing fees. Consequently we are
using a third party setup so we have to authenticate against their
server. What I did was to setup the accelerator planID and then in that
I put in a shell account and we use the shell account username and
password to hold the authentication data. We don't sell shells so its
no issue and its working fine. It's a kludge but its not the worst one
we've ever had to deal with.

Ah, we are using SlipStream and just authenticate with a profile in
VopRadius.
