I've finally got the thing going (lilypond 2.0.1), and have been browsing the
changes, trying to figure out exactly what I need to do to print some music
for my son, since I can't currently render anything at all. If nothing else,
they did manage to break every .ly file on my system horribly.

This looks like a mixed blessing. On the one hand, the current algorithm
pretty much has to be knocked to the ground and rebuilt. OTOH, my first
impression of these changes is that the new format will be a lot more
consistent, and I think it's going to be dramatically more likely that I can
make this thing do what we want. The elusive use it and don't think about it
print filter.

I think this unusual sensation I'm experiencing is called inspiration.

I'm going to run with it. Look at it and think about it seriously, anyway.
If the inspiration continues, I'll implement this in entirely separate
(partially recycled, but largely new) code, with a separate menu option. No
sweat off your balls either way.
