I think the ultimate plan is to have a status bar, but only to use it for location-sensitive messages (the "click to do X Y or Z" stuff as seen in the matrix and main views). Since no such messages have ever actually been added to the notation view (in any version of RG), there is not yet anything to show in the status bar and so no reason to actually have one. We should _not_, I think, retain any temporary messages of the form "transposing selection...". All of those TmpStatusMsg things can safely be disposed of.
