Sorry to here about your sound canvas...trouble using it in RG classic as well.
I used it routinely with my Yamaha. Actually I was the one to create the XG
mappings.
It was a little glitchy, In classic I had to pad the first and last entry with
a blank above and below to keep RG from clipping the label of the first and
last instrument name. The editor itself in classic was glitchy as well. It
would eat entry inputs routinely as I entered data. So I advise saving the
bank frequently.
But once my setup was working, I had not issues with the drum editor showing
key mappings for various mappings.
I just selected percussion from the side bar, then selected the instrument, and
mapping from the list.
The trick is that you have to have a bank defined as percussion, then you have
to create the drum mappings seperate.
As an example (RG classic):
Studio->ImportStudio From File...
Select Yamaha PSR-E403 and load it.
Studio->Manage MIDI Devices
Select the Yamaha E403 device->Banks...
You'll see in the list an XG Rhythm Kits Percussion Bank
Now we just need to add the Key Mappings
Import...->XG-Rhythmn-Kits-and-Mappings.rgd
Use the merge option in the dialog.
Now in the main canvas window set instrument 10 as MIDI Channel 10--typically
and select the percussion checkbox on the left panel. Now Bank and Program Let
you pick XG Rhythm Kit as the percussion bank, and you kits as the variations.
Now when you view a segment for that instrument in the percussion editor, all
of the instruments are listed on the left instead of the keyboard.
So, that is Julie's way of doing getting that to work.
