There are a few nice aspects which come along:
1) ALWAYS just one single table lookup for retrieving the next-hop info 
(obviously no one can do it by less)
2) A fix size for all 3 tables
3) Having one or two more zooming levels would match a tighter meshing, and 
also,  where this is not the case, we may apply  scale ratio = 1:1 
   so that no skimming occurs where inapproriate.
