Please don't spread the impression that the APIC support is some kind of "workaround". If the Mainboard/CPU you are using has a local APIC(-IO) chip, then activating the APIC support in the Kernel (and probably xenomai. I'm using RTAI and had to recompile it also) is not a workaround, but just correct usage of modern hardware. The old 16 IRQs, XT-style mode of course still work with the new APICs because of backwards compatibility. But simply using the real functionality (which is 24 seperate IRQs) is NOT a workaround!
