I'm sorry, maybe me words weren't precise enough. If every vendor would do its 
work then I would agree. But in fact there are still some buggy bios on the 
market which don't implement APIC correctly. So, to give a better hint: Choose 
a mainboard without APIC or if you need APIC, choose a vendor with a non-buggy 
bios!
IMO it's the best to keep it as simple as possible, which means if you only 
need functionality provided by old XT PIC try to stick to such a board because 
this way you don't have to care about buggy bios.
