I never said that powered HO turnouts "can't be found"... just that MOST
serious modelers don't use the brands that offer them (Atlas, etc)... and
that when they do use those brands, they either buy the non-powered versions
and install a migher-quality (typically an under-the-layout type) switch
machine, or when they do buy the powered switches, they throw away the
powering machine and upgrade to the higher quality ones.

But I am curious... what brand of powered-turnout it is that your hobby shop
is offering...?  I'm betting its ATLAS.  If not, the only other possibility
that I'm aware of is LifeLike's (very, very low-grade toy-line) turnouts...
which are so poor that I'd almost be willing to bet that NO scale modeler
ever uses them.
