Tim....I think that you should consider not only what looks good to
your eyes today, but also what will look good to your eyes five years
from now. Assuming you are a normal human being, your knowledge and
tastes will progress with time as you learn more and see many examples
of modeling done by others. Going to conventions and clinics and home
layout visitations, etc. really does make a difference in how you feel
about the more subjective aspects of S scale/gauge model railroading.
I would suggest you look down the road a bit farther and try to
determine what you will want after the short term thrill of S trucks on
O bodies with Kadee couplers rolling on code 148 rails is over. That
particular thrill will be short lived. I can almost assure you that
you will not be happy with that arrangement over the long haul. Long
range planning is best done before taking the first steps. Define your
end point and work towards that goal without any intermediate short
cuts intended to save time. Saving time is not the goal. Having
exactly what you want when it is all finished is a reasonable goal for
