Thanks to your help I found the article I was hunting. Barkeep, a round of
pints on me! Now for another part of the quest...
I remember reading an illustrated article on various fluting designs as used by
Budd, P-S, etc. Had nice cross sectional drawings of them, and my memory is
that the article was just a couple pages long.
Oddly, "flute" and/or "fluting" are not Keywords at mrrmag dot com.
