Art, I am neither the list owner nor an NASG official. But I have made an attempt at manufacturing in S Scale. Did I call up the NASG and ask them to lend me the $$ to cover the project with YOUR dues money? Not a chance. That project for all the good, bad and unbelievable ugly is all mine.
Anyone could make a foolhardy project come true with someone else's money. Where is the risk? If it tanks, sorry I made a bad judgment on what project to do. Let's look at a short list (and it is short but not complete) of the active business that are well known S producers that are alive and well without Sugar Daddy NASG covering their backs. BTS, Des Plaines, River Raisin, S Helper Service, American Models Tomalco, Pine Canyon... These are all BUSINESSES that are (allegedly) for PROFIT, not Non- profit societies or associations. I am not being specific to just you in this response. But since you asked I felt I had to further explain my position. I truly hope that you can very distinctly see the difference between a business and an organization like the NASG. I feel that there are others on this list that have this line a bit blurry as well. As our favorite New Brunswick native says, "If you want to make a small fortune in S Scale start off with a large fortune"....
