Hello Ed,
Thanks for taking the time to clarify the muddy waters. My only experience has
been with the packing shed. In that case the structure was already being made
in HO (and perhaps N) and the deal was to produce it in S. It took a minimum
of solid orders for the manufacturer to do the building in S (wood laser cut).
NASG was used to advertise the kit to the larger audience of those not on this
list. I don't know of any other commitment by NASG to this project.
I don't know the total sold but presumably the manufacturer made enough money
and the buyers are happy.
I don't recall if any specific deal was suggested in this instance by the man
looking for signals but the same kind of arrangement could be made with any
project.
I am new to the hobby and the to the list - joining in August 1999 - but there
seem to be several issues that are to be avoided. I remember in my first year
a major blow-up over a historic conflict called "Budd Buddies" that got pretty
extreme. My guess is that this kind of conflict has made many members leery of
any suggestion of group action or support by NASG. S-scale is a family in more
ways than one - perhaps that's the trouble.
Fortunately it's only a hobby. -right?
