This is an interesting discussion. From the discussion one might infer that
there is a strong interest out there in producing a magazine. Well, maybe.
One problem is that people experienced in publishing are already busy: They
hardly have time to model. Another problem is that everyone knows that S scale
publications have a short life span.
If someone out there is brave enough to undertake responsibility for producing
a magazine, some observations might be in order:
1. The most recent publication was just too busy: I had a hard time following
the layout. It was more like a collage.
2. An excellent publication if it is still being published is the 0 Scale
magazine called 0 Scale Railroading or something like that. It has a clean
layout and several well-written articles in each issue. Perhaps it could serve
as a model.
3. It should certainly offer articles on modeling, kitbashing, wiring, and
layout construction. We all recall the excellent article by Jeff English
entitled "A Tale of Two Boxcars". I have the article tucked away in a file,
but many readers will recall it. Another excellent article was by a modeler
who converted an AM heavyweight into a Rio Grande dining car or diner lounge.
I was amazed at the quality of his work. Stuff like that is always interesting.
4. Given the time involved in creating a publication perhaps an annual or
bi-annual publication schedule would be all that one can accomplish.
Just some thoughts.
