1. The proposed S scale e-zine website. I am opposed to this idea. Reason is
that only about half of us do e-mail. The entire S scale fraternity deserves a
publication, not just us "techies."
RE : Although I agree with this, it is only to a very small extent. The reason
I disagree goes hand-in-hand with the "old vs. new" and "RTR vs. kits"
atguements... that old term, "MODERN." In other words, time is moving on,
folks... and life is changing every day whether we like it or not. Those who
prefer building kits are being put second to those who want to unbox a model
and drop it on the tracks, and those who prefer the old way of doing just about
anything are being put second to those who have embraced the future... such as
in manual (Underwood?) typewriters vs. the Personal Computer with a word
processor (MS Word?). This is proven by the fact that so many hobby shops (and
yes, even craft shops and "scrap-booking" shops as my wife recently found out
here in Savannah) are closing (going out of business) because most people
now-a-days buy their wants and needs when it comes to this kind of stuff
(hobbies, etc) ONLINE vs. going through the arduous task of getting dressed,
loading up in the car, driving to town, visiting the shop(s), fighting to keep
the kids in check while in the store(s), then stopping at the gas station while
driving home. So I guess the real point of all of this is simply this... time
is NOT going to stop or even slow down, and isn't going to wait on anyone. So,
"techies" we may be, but like it or not, we are where it is at and where it
shall be from here on out. And "progress" is not going to cater to those who
cannot (or will not) get with the program. Being at least part-nostalgic, I
don't like it anymore than you... but what can we do about it?
So... I guess I'm all for it... or at least, not against this proposed, new web
site.
