Remember the expression "if you ask how much it costs you can't afford it"

Handlaid is similar. If you ask whether you should do it then you should not.
Handlaid is an affliction visited on people who need extra challenges.

I used handlaid on my layout because the layout was small and I wanted a longer
construction time. Building track can be an enjoyable facet of model
railroading but it takes time away from running trains and other building
projects.

Handlaid can become an obsession in itself that has nothing to do with running
trains.

If you are planning a layout around the walls at 11X35 you will spend your
youth building track. Use RTR flex and get to running trains before you are
too old.

An added virtue of flex track is that until you add ballast it is moveable.
You can pull it up and change your track design. Handlaid is stuck down from
the beginning and any later change will require a lot more effort.
