Rusty,

Your going in the right direction with the dual setup in the large amp
setups. I have a setup with a fairly large Digitrax 380 and a Sound
only Soundtraxx unit in my FEF. I plan on the same setup with my
Challenger if I ever get it working correctly. Because your probably
not using a whole lot of lighting effects on steam engines other than
headlights and maybe markers you can save the other function throttle
positions for the sound effects. The tusamani heavy steam decoder also
has, in my opinion, a rather poor UP sound.

I have been selling some of my older sound units/ and larger 380's to a
local 0 scaler who is in the same situation with large amp engines. As
I might have mentioned I did a complete inside overhaul of my USRA 0-8-0
switcher recently. So I removed the two decoder setup, standard bulbs
and installed the Tusamani and surface mounted LEDs. It was sort of a
test because many of the early Overland engines used the same motor--so
far so good with no shutdowns. I have about 4 self installed Tusamani
units and about the same in the older sound units.

As far as the larger amp Tusamani goes don't hold your breath. At one
time they were going to do a larger version of their regular sound
decoder and it never happened.
