While I don't necessarily agree with the method, Art Fahie (Bar Mills)
suggests putting those tiny castings in-place before painting them. He reasons
that they will sit still, once glued, and only the visible portions need then
to be painted. This might go well with switchyard junk, but I think it would
fall short for, say, something like products sitting on storefront shelving. I
have one shelving unit in a storefront with about a gross of Campbell's Soup
cans made from 1/32"d. styrene rod. Like to see Mr. Fahie paint the red and
yellow labels on those in-place.

All --
Having recently completed a few major scenes on my layout, I have taken to
detailing them with various cans, bins, tires, and other detritus. What a
chore! I have accumulated what I thought was a lot of this stuff over the
decades, all unpainted/unweathered. I have now used up nearly half of it, and
the scenes still look naked. The other day Gerry Evans told me he took three
months off from building structures just to concentrat on painting "junk." I
believe him! I need to acquire another 2-1/2 months worth of "junk," paint it,
and glue it in place. This is not fun!
