For one who has done a fair amount of detailing with junk, I might add a
few things. When shooting for 3/16 a few years back, I traveled with a
handful of 'folks' to help populate some of the layouts that needed a
quick 'throw down' body or two. At the Sn3 conventions, I also left
John Stetz's table (triangle model among others) a lot poorer. Those
lead castings can end up costing their weight in coin.
Purchase Paul Scoles recent video of detailing some of his scenes--not
earth shattering, but overall a lot of interesting stuff! More
recently, I have been using real junk for some of my model junk--with a
little thought you can get some good stuff. We had a local old time
modeler, who had a clinic simply called "Save a Buck". He had some real
good advice, but he's been gone awhile and I've forgotten much of it.
