Hi All,

I would like to bring to your attention something that has recently
happened. There are 4 main points I am trying to make here. For privacy
reasons I will not name names as you will soon see why. I have known the
main person of this story (Not his real name - I will call him Tom) for
about 15 years. He was seemingly always about to get ___ done for the trains
but there was always something stopping him that he had to do first. He got
married late in life and had 2 children. Of course that changed his life
significantly but the dream and plans for the layout never stopped. Tom
finally got benchwork up at his house when he was stopped by serious health
issues. Now, walking with his walker is a good thing.

I recently was in email exchanges with someone about the family of S
Scalers. I tried to define it, put a face of it, and show how it can greatly
add to your life if you let it. I consider some S Scalers to be my family. I
mean that with every breath I take. It is more then - "WE need an S Scale
coupler, we need a catalog, someone should make ____, why don't we
have_____, the NYC is better then the PRR, I wish Bill Lane would just shut
up... " NO! And it is more then who buys what from who.. I have more then
once gone through the NASG directory and place a face to at least 1 name on
every page.

Some of Tom friend's showed up at his house with some smiles and track.
After 2 nights work, when they left 2 weeks later Tom's trains were RUNNING
in Tom's house. That is what S Scalers DO! From 50 miles away I stand in awe
of these friends I have known for 15+ years to be able to do that. I could
not, as I have no game face to put on. I will be the first to admit it.

My 4 points are
Don't hold the carrot out in front of you for too long. Get something done.
Don't be a Lone Wolf. We don't bite.
If you feel like being cranky and post a "why don't we have____ message,
remember things could ALWAYS be worse.
If I ever get in a serious health issue I am absolutely sure my S Scale
family will be at my door with smiles and track if it is needed.

Thank You,
Bill Lane
