Brian,

If you at some point want to simulate finished glass block for your factory 
scene as well as incoming raw material, you might try using Plastruct sheets of 
clear tile. Also, Jerry Poniatowski taught me a neat trick. He uses  diffuser 
material intended for fluorescent lighting fixtures. He made great looking car 
dealership windows using this method. I suppose you could cut these into small 
individual window blocks using a razor saw. Time consuming yes, but I think it 
would be believable. You might find some of this stuff at a hardware store. 
That's what I love about model railroading - I always look at everyday items as 
raw materials for model building.
