My favorite ma and pa shop has long been Satler's in Westmont, NJ near
Philly. The owners were Glenn Ritters aunt and uncle. The store once
stocked HO and AF (No lionel!) and has more recently stocked SHS. I
once talked to Elenor Satler at a train show that they were doing. She
said that the business done at the shows had become greater that the
business at the shop. Train shows and the internet have changed the
playing field. The little shop around the corner has all but disappeared.

The recent "WGH on Tour" show in Philly had so many attendees that the
State Police had to close the exit off on Route 422. I sat in the exit
line for over an hour before they closed it. I'm happy to say the S
had the best exposure that I've ever seen. Dealers like SHS and PHM
were there as well as 3 modular layouts. I didn't get to see all the
dealers because of the crowd and riding herd on 3 grandchildren.

With this new emphasis, I'm no longer too worried about those tough
hobby shop owners and look forward to S gaining more prominence on the
web and at those numerous train shows.

  Go Eagles!
