Shinoharas in all scales seem to have the same unusual geometry:

The strangest thing I ever saw was a problem module that got diagnosed by the 
wisp of 
smoke rising between a spike and the rail. Apparently something conductive was 
buried in 
the Homasote, creating a dead short.
