At some point the track work needs to be considered too. I have read many
reports of this or that locomotive being a problem only to discover no problems
when running on layouts with excellent track work. I'm not saying folks have
bad track or that there aren't locomotives with issues, just that it is also
part of the mix. I am very aware that some turn outs operate and track much
better than others, it stands to reason that track work is a factor in
locomotive performance – especially the more "finicky" earlier brass models.

Regrettably S scale really doesn't have "standard" scale track and all of us
have varying abilities to install and maintain what is available. The guys
with better track work will tell you they spend as many hours maintaining it as
they do running on it, maybe more!

Bob makes an excellent case in point that his FEF-3 seems to have fewer issues
then others report...
