 That's a nice article you wrote, just the thing to give a new modeler the 
incentive and  confidence to try building them. From my days surveying them for 
topo maps I'd suggest planting them a bit farther apart and maybe using smaller 
beads as IIRC the old railroad lines had smaller insulators than the present 
day power lines. The one's I recall along the r/w here were a greenish tinted 
glass had a kinda cone shape similiar to the old sawdust burners at 
sawmills....dave
