How easy would it be to replace or file down the small non-drive wheels on
the AF locos ?

if I were machining flanges on AF drivers (with a file or whatever) I
would machine them from the backside so as to increase the back-to-back
dimension at the flanges, where it counts

I've never run an AmericanFlyer loco so I'm wondering given their age do
they run well enough to make converting them to scale worth all the trouble?
I've only seen them running at bullet train speeds so I have doubts about
their ability to run at scale speed? One could probably do the bulk of the
flange reduction with a powered grinder against the running wheel then
finish it off with a file, if they can be turned down to somewhere around
50-60
thousandths and narrowed enough they should be able to run on scale
track. It's apretty common operation in O scale , converting three rail big
flanged
locos into scale wheeled locos....dave
