Hi Mike; Well, thank you for NOT naming the vendor.
If cast metal in a part was deteriorated, it may have been the common Zamac failure, which often occurs years after manufacture. It has been discussed here before, or google "zinc pest" to find articles about it. More generally, do you think a manufacturer of any other appliance or tool would honor the warranty after 13 years if you simply left the object in a box for all that time waiting until you "needed" it? Even Craftsman Tools dropped the "lifetime" warranty some years ago. You are fortunate that the manufacturer was still in business, and had parts. Pieter E.
