Pieter,

I knew better not to do that on a public forum like this.

Thanks for explaining that to me about the casting, as that could be possible.

Yes, I agree, about the 13 years, as yes, he did have some trucks left, as
those trucks are no longer used in the engine that again is still on the market
with many roadnames.

The thing that got me the most was his denial that the item was from his or her
company. As I gave them the road number that is on the cab that is still used
on the cab today.

No big deal I guess, as I have spent 1,000s like many of you on trains, the
layout, collectable AF, if I can say that here, so what is another 60.

I will tell you that L L Bean still has a lifetime warranty on everything they
sell and we have used that. Not train related but I thought I would let you
know.

By the way, I am pretty much to the S world, especially with the doings of the
NASG and the background.

I see you, Ed L. Rolland M., I hope I got your name spelled right Rolland, and
some others on this list have allot to do with the NASG past. I had no idea.
I think I missed a few of you too who are on the list.

Thanks for keeping S alive with the work you all have done with the NASG in
promoting S gauge no matter, scale or hi rail.

I know there are a couple of major “players” with NASG on the list, as your
names slip my mind right now. William Fraley and Dick Karnes? Forgive on
this. THANKS! Thanks for the great work.

Mike

Hi Mike;

Well, thank you for NOT naming the vendor.

If cast metal in a part was deteriorated, it may have been the common Zamac
failure, which often occurs years after manufacture. It has been discussed here
before, or google "zinc pest" to find articles about it.

More generally, do you think a manufacturer of any other appliance or tool
would honor the warranty after 13 years if you simply left the object in a box
for all that time waiting until you "needed" it? Even Craftsman Tools dropped
the "lifetime" warranty some years ago. You are fortunate that the manufacturer
was still in business, and had parts.
