Interesting thread. To animate or not animate that is the question.
Four score and 50 years ago a young lad had a Flyer Observation Car that had
a rather poor looking brakeman going in and out of the end observation
platform. It was really cool but the noise the relay made was annoying to
said young fellow.
Back to the present, every time this fellow has people over to operate the
scale layout, he is encouraged by like scalers from different scales to have
an operating stand pipe. At least have it move, they say.
One of our members of our workshop group, Pete Moffet, has operating scale
accesories that are push button on both sides of his modules. The spout on
the enclosed water tower goes down and you can hear water gushing. Also
there is always a Morse Code sender sounding when you go by the station.
When we display in public, the audience really loves it. All that is
missing is the smell of Creosote.
I will probably animate the stand pipe to have it move towards the loco
being serviced. It is on the Brewery module. Having it pour a beer would
be stretching it although I know some people who would love it...
cheers,
Andy Malette
