If you buy the urethane casting material from the foundry supply firms you will not have that problem. That is ALL I ever used.

The JC models roofs are milled basswood and just a tad long, additionally I recall JC (not Chester) made a casting of the entire end that fit over the end of the roof millwork and hid the end grain. If you make the end castings as JC did, then shrinkage can be easily accommodated by slightly over-sizing the roof piece. J.
