Ed,

I approached my current layout with a little different twist after seeing and
operating on many plywood Pacific's including my own in different scales at
times.  First, my goal with my current layout (which is still under
construction) was to get the trains running as soon as possible.  This really
helps to keep my interest peaked and has allowed me to show off the trains to
non-model railroaders that are curious about what is going on in the garage
(including my wife!).  The layout already has a finished look when you walk in
the room.  The lighting, the backdrop, the light valances, the flooring, the
layout skirting.  All of these items are complete.  This really helps in giving
the layout a finished appearance although it is very far from it.  Running
trains and rail fanning the layout always take priority with me personally.  I
have stopped building structures, and car kits for the last 3 years to work on
the layout.  There is a H.O. club
layout close to my house that I frequent and they actually run trains for 2
months then work on the layout for 2 months to keep the progress moving but
still take time to enjoy the progress that has already been made.  Not a bad
thought process...

Danny.

I have a question for those who have a home layout or anybody that's
interested.
How much time do you spend running trains ( operating ) compared to building
structures, sceniking (sp), or working on locos and rolling stock? I love
running trains but there always seems to be something that needs to be done on
the layout that interferes with operating. Is this typical? Just curious.
