My goal is to run trains about 90% of the time.

But I have found it a little bit of fun decorating cars and locos for my
favorite railroads that cannot be purchased R-T-R, especially L&N. Maybe
fun is not the right word. It probably should be "satisfying" when the model
is complete and ready to operate.

I hate the maintenance. A special disgust is when I cannot solve a
problem that should be simple. I thrown up my hands and scream at trying to
put
scale couplers on some of my AM FP7s and E8s. I ordered special parts
from AM for this and they simply do not fit. But my goal is to get this
stuff done, finish the layout, and run trains as much as possible.

Of course a layout is never finsihed because we keep seeing more things
that are possible. So someday I may start doing scenery after the trackwork
and wiring are complete. And maybe I will do interiors in my passenger
cars. I have started one such project. But I want to run trains.

I have a question for those who have a home layout or anybody that's
interested.
How much time do you spend running trains ( operating ) compared to
building
structures, sceniking (sp), or working on locos and rolling stock? I love
running trains but there always seems to be something that needs to be
done on
the layout that interferes with operating. Is this typical? Just curious.
