Funny you should ask that: I just finished filing/sanding a facimile of the
angle on the front "falsies", and am now tackling prepping the end rail "Y"
brackets for drilling. Yup, just stopped working for a moment to hit
Youtube and start a Credence Clearwater play list (groovin' to the sound of
"Born On The Bayou" as I type), and thought I'd check email.

You are correct.

Compared to HO, there isn't a great deal available in regards to detail
parts in S scale. Like I said, it's the nature of the S scale beast. I've
made peace with the lacking detail parts in order to enjoy the wonderful
size of the S scale stuff.

Now, that isn't a whine n' cheese comment. True enough, there IS a nice
selection of detail parts available in S scale, for which I am very
grateful. However, in HO, it DOES seem that you can purchase scale-sized
nose toilets in the correct phase if you so desire. Of course, seeing as
I'm not really into poopers, that's not terribly important to me. (Until I
need a 1:1 sized pooper PRONTO. THEN it's an issue with me. Which reminds
me: Ever wonder what us railroad types do when we're on an engine that
doesn't have a toilet and you get the hot trots? Ah... a story best left
told another time... if ever!)

In particular to the AM Baldwin: It comes with some really oversized
handrail sets. I have a problem with oversized handrails/grabs. No can do
the biggies.

Of course, if you replace ONE handrail on an engine, you gotta' replace them
all. So, I'm making my own set of hand rails for each AM Baldwin I build.
(I am doing the same with the AM S-12 rework that will be brought along with
this DS project once the two get to the same stage of completion.) I've
made my own handrails countless times in my HO years, so I'm sort of used to
the pain by now. It really is akin to the kids you see with pins and hooks
hanging all over their face: It hurts... but in their minds it's worth it to
look oh-so-cool. Know whatta' mean?
