The toughest part about isolating frogs is soldering the feeders to them: 
They don't tolerate the heat and if not secured firmly, once the heat is 
applied, they will hop off.

Jeff.....Are you really sure that non-isolated frogs caused your loco to 
smoke?  Are there any other possibilities of the cause?  Or other 
alternative solutions?  Are your wheels and track properly gauged?
